Busy Building and Battling

I have been building and painting, and painting and building, and battling through a Frostgrave campaign with the eldest child. In this first of several posts, I’m going to show off my griffin knight. He’s going to be the lord of my Old World army. He’s supposed to be riding a Royal Pegasus, but the rules also allow a Hippogryph—I wanted a griffin.

The beast itself is a Safari toy I found for $12 at a children’s museum. Far more reasonable than a model or miniature, and larger too.

The rider.

I had to slice and shift the griffin’s rear leg to allow it to fit on the 50x50mm base (the legal Hippogryph base in the Old World).

It was quite tempting to make my griffin black, like a traditional German eagle, but I decided that’ll be a different project.

My first Pegasus knight had a base with destroyed undead on it, and I’m trying to make each of the larger more monstrous figures a display piece in its own right. For this, I went with a goblin being crushed underfoot. I’m not a huge fan of gore, but it didn’t seem to make sense without it.

All that is left for this project is the charge on the shields. I’m thinking a wolf’s head in red. I am procrastinating out of fear of ruining it. More posts to come, I have a backlog of photos!!!

  1. Been a while! This looks very nice. An excellent conversion and a fine paint job. I need to get cracking on my own painting...
