Today saw a group of adventurers in the employee of Sir Reginald II delve into the cave found in the last few posts in search of the source of the tales coming out of Bleudingle about monsters in the wood.
Their quest:
- Discover proof of monsters.
- Slay 5 “monsters”.
- Discover the end of the cavern system.
- Stan: Hero, Hits 2, Equestrian (+1 Mounted Mvmt, Medium Armor.
- Gregori: Character, 1 Hit, Nimble (+1 Foot Mvmt), Medium Armor.
- 2 Archers: Grunts, 1 Hit, No Armor.
- 1 Billman: Grunt, 1 Hit, Light Armor.
I successfully completed the underground setting for the cavern-crawl! It’s a little lackluster, maybe, but it works. Note the points of entry in the left and right of the top and bottom floors, respectively; also the stalactites my daughter kindly produced!
Stan (on the bridge, no titles or suffixes as of yet, he’s still unproven!), Gregori (with the axe behind Stan), and a few henchmen enter the cavern, and make it all the way to a stone bridge with no issue. Slow beginnings, and tense as well. There are a lot of encounter blips, and none have been fruitful as of yet.
The men make it through and to the second level without a hitch! Their luck has to change though, doesn’t it? It was about this time my daughter asked to play, and then...
...She rolled a live encounter! Three troglodytes burst forth to slay our heroes and enjoy the delicacy of man-flesh!
The next few turns saw Stan take a hit, but being a hero, he is able to withstand the first. Gregori and the bill-wielding henchman were slain, but the lizard-folk were also dispatched.
No other encounters were rolled, which was mildly disappointing for the maiden voyage of the cavern, especially since I had a large lizard monstrosity ready to break out! Overall a slow game, but a fun craft and inspiring crawl through a dungeon. The party completed their quest, other than the amount of dead lizards, but that’s just bad luck. I enjoyed the tension of waiting for the doom of the dragon on my encounter die.
The set up works well and I do like your daughter’s contribution. An excellent adventure promising plenty more to come...
