I have a question for any fellow gamers who read this blog: I am endeavoring to start a new project (12-1300’s High Medieval) and I essentially have to decide between 28mm giants or 15mm gnomes. I love 1/72, but there is a lot of difficulty finding terrain in the USA at an affordable cost, or any 1/72 terrain that isn’t WWII Normandy and Berlin.
So, I am wondering your thoughts? 15’s are definitely more affordable. I am considering individually mounting knight & commander figures, then mounting 3 to a base the grunts. I enjoy skirmish games, and I’ve seen them done well in 15, but I don’t know if that’s an outlier experience.
28’s are beautiful, but so stinking expensive! However, they have more ready-made terrain options available due to the increase in love for Dungeons & Dragons over the last 5 years.
Thank you all for the time you take to look at my wandering and ponderings, and thank you for any thoughts you have on this topic!
I think you would enjoy 28s more. More expensive but more satisfying too. So many beautiful figures available plus scenic items, baggage and the like!
ReplyDeleteMy brother-in-law received a 3D Printer for his birthday and has taken to printing me out wagons and the like for fun! They are more 25-28mm. My wife likes how the 15mm figures take up less space, however…haha!
DeleteI'd stick with 1/72, there is more terrain than you think, look at HO model railroad stuff.
ReplyDeleteI’ll definitely still be doing my 1/72 stuff, but I’d like to change it up for the different era. I didn’t really like the selection available for the feudal/early medieval in 1/72.
DeleteWhat about 1/72nd with undersized terrain...?
ReplyDeleteI just purchased a church that is about 15mm scale at the dollar store, and it worked fine for the game I used it in yesterday. It just nags at the back of my skull (which makes me feel like a spoiled brat, demanding in-scale housing for my plastic men!).
DeleteI know what you mean! On the other hand, even Charles Grant Snr used undersized buildings, for practical reasons!
DeleteI find undersized terrain looks “Right” with figures whatever the scale but of course it is a matter of taste.
DeleteCheck out the Pegasus hobbies 1/72 Russian buildings. There are cottages, farm houses etc. Inexpensive and nice.
