Adventures in Florida Part 2

A lovely family of stumps found in Silver Springs.

Most of the trip was visiting my grandparents and learning to play (and win) Pinochle. The last two days, however, we got to visit Walt Disney World!

The LEGO sea monster and Rainforest cafe in the background at “Disney Springs” (formerly Downtown Disney).

The Rainforest Cafe building is a pseudo-volcano that erupts with fire every twenty minutes or so. It was quite a sight!

We decided to meet some princesses in their hall, and a highlight for me was a pedestal with Snow White depicted in German!

Cinderella’s Castle had a beautiful mosaic along the wall of its entry way, here depicted out of chronological order.

A picture of the castle from without (and during fireworks no less!).

Finally, a view of Mainstreet USA from the castle gates, all decorated for Christmas.

During the flights there and back again, my main source of entertainment was Roger Zelazny’s “The Guns of Avalon”, one in a series of Pulp Fantasy novels that feature inter-dimensional travel, swords, sorcery, and even automatic weapons! My secondary source of entertainment was a mobile game based off Mordheim by Games Workshop. I played that when the lights turned off after sundown. These kept me distracted enough on the flight and kept my hobby hunger strong! I’m mildly terrified of flying, but it’s something that you have to do sometimes when family is all over the continent!

The trip was successful and we are safely home. Now to see about some painting and playing…

  1. Really enjoyed your photos especially the mosaics. Sounds( and looks like) a great trip! Tell me more of the stump family…

    1. We were along the trail and passed through a vine-covered pergola, when we came across it on the side of the road. They were no more than a foot from the ground, but they looked to me like brownie huts or the dancing mushrooms from Fantasia. I was taken with them and had to capture a photo! They looked like good inspiration for something in the future, but I’m not sure what. The whole experience made me feel like I had wandered into Fairy Lands.

  2. Looks like a great trip! I've always loved the Amber novels, lots of inspiration there. If you liked them, a recommendation, Glen Cook's the Black Company.

    1. I keep looking for a copy at my discount book store! I’ve taken to buying used books and preferably pocket editions after clearing out my personal library to make moving easier. I love seeing peoples’ highlights in them as well, it’s neat to see what affected other readers.

    2. I love used book stores as well. Found all kinds of neat things over the years. The best find I probably made was a three volume hardcover mint edition of the unabridged Gibbon's decline and fall of the Roman Empire.
